I’m going to get a little personal today … but it’s a story I am 99.9% sure you can relate to, at least a little!

A while back, I was working on a MAJOR goal I set for myself. It’s been a while since I taught classes that involved (in my words!) jumping up and down – really any type of cardio work that gets the heart rate up and helps you get fitter. I just wanted to do something every day that helped my heart get stronger, not feel like walking quickly down the street was going to get me out of breath or to stop just generally feeling sluggish.

To be 100% transparent, it felt almost TOO BIG to be realistic (yes, even instructors who spend their time motivating clients to keep moving have to deal with negative self-talk sometimes!). But it was too important for me to give in to negative self-talk, so I started to put my plan together.

I mapped out a clear, step-by-step plan for myself to make it happen. And then I put that plan into action!

It wasn’t long before I started making some pretty big progress. I was really proud of what I did in such a short time …. I was exercising every day and feeling great.

But then all of my progress came to a screeching halt.

For some reason, I stopped following through with my commitment to myself – and I actually started dreading the entire process.

The same things I used to look forward to weren’t fun anymore, and I lost that fire to keep pushing through when things got tough.

One day I had a hard talk with myself and I finally realised what the problem was.

The problem wasn’t the plan or the work that needed to get done … the problem was that I stopped working on and thinking about my MINDSET.

Since things were moving along so smoothly, I got comfortable. I stopped doing the same things I was doing before that kept me inspired and focused. I stopped planning in my sessions and adding them to my diary. I stopped tracking my progress and checking off every day that I reached my steps goal (in fact I even stopped wearing my fitness tracker which would buzz every hour I hadn’t moved).

It made ALL THE DIFFERENCE for me, more than I realised – the planning and tracking kept me feeling positive, focused, and excited about my progress.

When I got comfortable and stopped paying as much attention to them, things started to fall apart.

It all starts with your mindset!

What are YOU doing to keep yourself inspired everyday to reach your goal? How are you staying focused?

Are you making it a priority? Have you gotten comfortable?

Challenge: I recommend setting a DAILY habit goal to move and do something that you enjoy and inspires you to stay active! Even for just 5-10 minutes. And track your progress! There’s a reason why charts and stars work for kids – it creates habits and helps you stay on track.

This is one of those things that has huge compound returns on your investment 🙂

If you want to dive in a little deeper, one of my favourite books about habits is ‘The 5-Second Rule’ by Mel Robbins. A great way to get you to take action and get you where you want to be.

NOTHING is out of reach in your life.

As Walt Disney says, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”

And we can help you to keep moving – whether it’s one of our LIVE classes with our local, expert instructors or our OnDemand schedule where you can access classes at any time that suits you.  We’ll help keep you on track and remind you to book your next class or schedule a time for an OnDemand class (there are 5min sessions on there too – so no time is no longer an excuse!) and then be there to keep you inspired and focused along the way.

There’s no better time than RIGHT NOW. So, if you’ve always wanted to start Yoga or Pilates but worried about keeping up in class, why not claim your COMPLIMENTARY class and come to see for yourself just how much you can do – and you don’t need to be able to touch your toes to start.
